This is a detail set, not an aircraft model. The set combines resin wheels and masks for painting them. A resin casting has no parting seam over the crown of the tire, which on plastic wheels comes from molding in two halves and can only be sanded off at the cost of damaging the tread, and it carries finer relief on the sidewalls. The masks then ensure a sharp boundary between tire and hub — on a twin-engine aircraft with larger wheels that is work a modeler would otherwise have to do four times with a brush, and differently every time.
The Dornier Do 215 was a twin-engine all-metal high-wing aircraft derived from the Do 17 design family, with a slim fuselage and a shared crew cockpit at the front. It was used in the bomber and reconnaissance roles and differed from the related types of the same family above all in its powerplant. What matters for a modeler is that the landing gear is retractable, so the wheels are visible mainly on a machine built on the ground, where they carry the whole weight of the aircraft and their execution is conspicuous.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that no mold release agent is left on the surface. Cut the casting block off with a saw, never break it, and level the mating surface on abrasive paper laid on a flat board — on a twin-engine aircraft every unevenness shows up as the whole model leaning. Apply a primer before painting. Paint from the hub to the tire: paint the hub, let it cure, fit the mask, press the edge down around the whole perimeter and spray the dark shade in thin coats. Take the mask off while the paint is fresh. Instead of pure black, choose a dark gray, supplemented by fine dust on the sides and a lighter cast on the contact patch.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory to one. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Use respiratory protection when sanding resin.
