Caracal Models 1:48 Douglas AD-5 / A-1E Skyraider: U.S. Navy / USMC offers markings for the wide multi-seat version of the piston-engined attack aircraft. The model is sold separately.
Responsibility details are not available.
A marking sheet for the Skyraider in the AD-5 version, later redesignated A-1E, with the US Navy and Marine Corps as its theme. Scale 1:48. It is an accessory for a finished model, not a kit; how many schemes the sheet carries cannot be read from the name, so we do not anticipate it.
The Douglas Skyraider was a single-engine piston attack aircraft with a massive Wright R-3350 radial engine and a load-carrying ability that even some twin-engine machines envied. It earned its reputation mainly by being able to stay over a battlefield for long hours. The AD-5 version differs from the single-seat variants at first glance: it has a widened fuselage with two seats side by side and a space that could be adapted for reconnaissance, communications, carrying wounded or training. When the American armed forces unified aircraft designations in 1962, the AD-5 became the A-1E.
Naval Skyraiders are usually built in a dark blue or gray finish, on which light lettering stands out a great deal, which makes it all the more important to have a smooth surface. The exhaust openings and the underside of the fuselage are usually marked by greasy traces of service; apply the weathering only after the markings have been sealed, then, or you will foul the lettering irreversibly.
