About product

Douglas B-26C Invader seatbelts STEEL 1:48 - Eduard steel belts

Unlike full photo-etched sets and unlike the broader Zoom sets, this item covers a single thing: the crew seat belts. The key word is STEEL. Ordinary photo-etch is made of brass, whereas here the base material is steel, which has shape memory. A bent belt keeps its sag and does not spring back flat, so the result looks like fabric draped over a seat, not like a flat strip of metal. The parts are printed with the colors of the webbing and of the metal buckles as well.

What the belts are good for

Seats in plastic kits are usually bare, or have the belts suggested only as a shallow relief. Yet they are the first detail anyone notices in an open cockpit. On the Invader, where the glazing gives a view of both the pilot's station and the bombardier's position in the C version, it is worth adding belts at every station that stays visible.

Building and painting tips

Cut the belts out with a scalpel; steel is harder than brass, so press steadily and let the blade do the work. Shape them only after cutting, ideally over a round tool or with blunt tweezers, so that the sag looks natural. Do not make the individual belts symmetrical, real webbing never hangs the same way. It is a good idea to clean the surface of the seat before gluing. They are fixed with a tiny drop of super glue, ideally applied with a pin. Do not spray an opaque color over the printing. If you want to age the belts, a very fine wash into the folds and a hint of wear on the buckles with a dry brush is enough.

Who the set is for

  • builders of the Invader in 1:48 scale with an open cockpit
  • modelers whose interior is missing only the belts
  • anyone who wants a quick improvement of a visible detail with minimal work
  • beginners who want to try photo-etch on a small scale

This is an accessory set, not a stand-alone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Steel photo-etch has shape memory. Once bent it keeps its sag, so the belt looks like fabric, whereas brass tends to spring back flat.

Going by the item name, these are the seat belts. A wider interior scope is covered by other Eduard ranges, Zoom or full photo-etch for example.

No, the webbing and the buckles are printed from the factory. At most a fine wash can be added to pick out the folds.

With a small drop of super glue applied with a pin. Clean dust and grease off the surface of the seat beforehand.
