This set is neither a kit nor a resin casting. They are pre-colored 3D decals on decal paper which carry a three-dimensional relief, so the instrument panels, side panels and further elements of the cockpit get depth and color at one stroke. The set is cut for the interior of the F-104 fighter aircraft in the A and C versions in 1:48 scale and replaces the laborious hand coloring of small details. The dimensions of the elements correspond to the cockpit of the Kinetic kit.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was a single-engine supersonic fighter aircraft with a very slender fuselage and a short trapezoidal wing with a sharp leading edge. It was powered by a jet engine with an afterburner. The A version was the first production fighter variant for the US Air Force, while the C version represented the fighter and fighter-bomber form with the possibility of in-flight refueling. The cockpit of both versions is comparatively cramped, and with the canopy open a great deal is visible from it, so detailed equipment of the interior pays off on a model.
Coat the base under the decal smooth, because on a matte and rough surface a decal silvers. First spray the parts of the cockpit with the base color of the interior, then apply gloss clear coat, let it dry thoroughly and only after that apply the decal. Use lukewarm water, settle the decal with a soft brush and draw the excess water off with the edge of a paper towel. Use softener carefully and weak, because with decals that have a three-dimensional relief it reacts differently than with ordinary thin decals, and too aggressive a product could beat the raised details down. At the end, unify the surface with matte clear coat.
The package contains decals only. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
