A set of photo-etched metal parts for a model of the F-14D carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. An accessory to a kit that pushes the detail where a plastic part is too thick.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-14 is a two-seat American carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing: for takeoff and for landing on deck the wing is spread, and in fast flight it sweeps back. The crew consists of a pilot and a weapon systems officer seated one behind the other. The D form is the last production version of the family; it received modernized avionics and a cockpit with displays. The aircraft served with the US Navy as fighters and later as strike aircraft as well.
These are photo-etched parts in 1:48 scale. Metal sheet holds a sharp edge even at a thickness that cannot be reached in injection-molded plastic, so it suits the places that are meant to look thin: grilles, loops, rims, small panels and the fittings of visible spaces. The instructions supplied by the manufacturer give which parts the package brings and where they belong on the model.
Prepare a hard surface and a new blade, because a blunt blade bends the sheet rather than cutting it. Make the bend in one go and along the whole length of the edge, as repeated rebending tires the metal and the part cracks. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin, so that the excess does not spread around. The metal surface is smooth, so degrease it before painting and lay down a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the parts. Fit the parts for the inner spaces before you close the fuselage.
The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
