The F-35B is the version of the American F-35 Lightning II fighter that can make a short takeoff and a vertical landing. To manage that, the rear nozzle of its turbofan engine swivels downward and thrust is split between it and the lift fan behind the cockpit. The swiveling nozzle is therefore a prominent feature of the aircraft: it is built up from rings that rotate against one another, and its surface carries heat staining of a kind you will not find anywhere else on the airframe. On a model the tail is the first place a viewer looks, so detail here pays off.

The word PRINT in the name shows that the parts are printed; printing can reproduce the concentric rings and the fine vanes that cannot be made in injected plastic. The range of parts and the sequence for fitting them is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The printed parts are held on thin print supports. Cut them a little away from the part with a sharp blade and sand the remainder down carefully so that the edges of the vanes survive. The material is more brittle than plastic, so work calmly and without pressure. It bonds with cyanoacrylate glue; polystyrene cement has no effect on it. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with a little detergent so that print resin residue disappears, and let them dry. The nozzle suits metallic shades laid on in thin coats: a darker base and over it color transitions from golden to blue-gray, the kind that heat leaves on sheet metal. Decide on the position of the nozzle in advance; a lowered nozzle goes together with the open doors of the lift fan, so both have to be resolved at the same time.
For modelers who build the F-35B in 1:48 and want the tail at a level of detail the kit does not offer. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
