This is a resin accessory for the F-35B model in 1:48 scale, not a model of the aircraft. It replaces the engine exhaust nozzle, that is a part which with injection-molded plastic is necessarily split and whose inside tends to be simplified. A resin casting allows finer structure and deeper detail, because it is not constrained by the parting line of a mold. The specific contents of the package are stated on the box of the set.
On models of jet aircraft the nozzle is among the most closely watched places. A model is often examined from behind precisely, and the difference between a plastic part with a seam down the middle and a one-piece resin casting is evident. On the F-35B this area is moreover very characteristic in shape, so accuracy pays off.
The F-35B Lightning II is the version of a single-engine multirole aircraft adapted for short takeoff and vertical landing. Besides the main engine it carries a lift fan behind the cockpit and an exhaust nozzle that can be swiveled downward. It is precisely the swiveling nozzle that is typical of this version and sets it apart from the other versions of the family.
Wash the resin part first in lukewarm water with dish soap so that it is rid of the residue of the mold release agent, otherwise paint will not hold on it. Cut the casting block off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the surface; when sanding resin, protect your airways and work wet. It is glued with superglue, as ordinary cement for plastic does not work on resin. Apply a primer before painting and bring the inside of the nozzle out with metallic shades and a dark wash.
