A photo-etched accessory set for a model of the McDonnell F-4B Phantom II carrier-borne aircraft in 1:48 scale. Thin metal parts for fine detail.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched part comes about by the shape being cut through thin sheet metal by a chemical process. That gives a thickness that injection-molded plastic cannot reach, and the edge stays sharp. On a model the difference shows everywhere the material is really thin on the real subject too, that is on edges, grilles and small loops. The set is meant for a model of the F-4B in 1:48 scale; the extent of the parts and the kit it is tuned to are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The McDonnell F-4B Phantom II is a two-seat twin-engine carrier-borne fighter aircraft of the US Navy and the US Marine Corps. You will know it by the cranked wing with raised outer sections and by the drooping horizontal tail surfaces; that silhouette made it one of the most easily recognized machines of its time. The B version was the first carrier-borne version built in large numbers and it served with the units for a number of years.
Take the elements off with a sharp blade on a hard surface, because scissors will bend the metal. Make the bends on a straight edge or in a bending tool, in one movement if possible, because repeated bending breaks the material. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue laid on in the slightest amount. Degrease the parts before painting and give them a primer, or the finish will rub off the smooth metal at the first handling.
It aims at a modeler for whom the contents of the box are no longer enough and who wants to refine the places everyone looks at. The package holds a photo-etched fret; the kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
