Eduard 1:48 F-4E SPACE, 3D decals and photo-etch for the cockpit

The Eduard SPACE set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard combines 3D decals and pre-colored steel photo-etched parts for a detailed treatment of the cockpit of the F-4E Phantom II fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an upgrade set for F-4E models that markedly raises the level of the instrument panel and the interior without demanding painting.

What the set contains

The three-dimensional 3D decals carry the main and side instrument panels with realistic depth and color. The pre-colored steel photo-etch adds harness straps, seat features and other fine details that plastic alone does not usually offer. The combination of the two techniques gives the interior a convincing look even at close range.

Use

• Moisten the backing paper of the 3D decal with a sponge and a drop of detergent and lift the part off with tweezers onto the cleaned place.
• The part has no adhesive layer of its own, so fix it with PVA (white) glue; Eduard does not recommend cyanoacrylate glue with 3D decals. The steel straps, on the other hand, are glued with cyanoacrylate glue.
• Do not use a decal softener, as its chemistry attacks the printed resin. The photo-etch can be blended in at the end with a light matte varnish.
