This set from the manufacturer Quinta Studio replaces hand-painted instruments and flat decals in the cockpit with three-dimensional, pre-colored elements on decal paper. The details have genuine relief, so once applied the instrument bezels, the controls and the side consoles look three-dimensional. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory for a model you already have.
The F-4G Phantom II in the Wild Weasel version was a two-seat machine derived from the F-4E and intended to find and suppress the radars of an air defense system. A special systems operator worked in the rear cockpit, and his station differed substantially from that of the ordinary fighter version of the Phantom. The early designation refers to the early form, which had a differently equipped instrument panel and rear cockpit from the later machines. That is exactly why the manufacturer lists the early and the late version as two separate sets.
The individual elements are cut from the sheet, left in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the backing paper onto the cockpit parts. So that an element beds down perfectly into the relief, press it with a soft brush or a cotton swab and on broken areas add a drop of super glue; do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as their chemicals attack the printed resin and would ruin the element. The base should be smooth, degreased and always coated with gloss varnish, because the element has no adhesive layer of its own and holds precisely on the sheen. The original molded detail on the plastic usually has to be sanded off first. Finish the cockpit before you close the fuselage up, and seal the finished work with matte varnish.
