This is an injection-molded plastic kit of the North American F-86F-40 Sabre jet fighter in 1:48 scale from the Japanese maker Hasegawa. It is a limited edition with special decals for the Japanese Blue Impulse display team in its historic first color scheme, specifically in the version of the wingman aircraft. The proven Hasegawa tooling offers a finely engraved surface and well-fitting parts; the main added value of this box is precisely the striking decals.
The F-86 Sabre was the first Western jet fighter with a swept wing and a legend of the Korean War. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) operated it for many years, and it was on Sabres that the Blue Impulse display team was formed in the 1960s. Its first color scheme from the early 1960s is among the iconic chapters of postwar Japanese aviation and makes a rewarding subject for modelers.
Glue the parts with a thin cement for plastic. The Blue Impulse color scheme rests on saturated colors and extensive decals: paint the areas under the decals to a high gloss and go over them with a gloss varnish before application, so that the decals adhere perfectly without silvering. Mask the canopy glazing before painting. At the end even the surface out with a satin or gloss varnish, which suits a display machine better than a matte one.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
