A photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:48 scale. A detail set for refining a model of the American Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat carrier fighter. The parts are etched from thin metal sheet and serve to replace and complement the fine detail that injection-molded plastic cannot capture faithfully. The set is an aftermarket accessory, not a standalone model — it is added to the matching plastic kit of the aircraft.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American carrier fighter of the Second World War that became one of the most successful fighters of the US Navy in the Pacific. The F6F-5 version was the most widespread production variant, with an improved engine and aerodynamic refinements. The aircraft was powered by the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine.
Photo-etched parts are separated with a sharp knife on a cutting surface and bent with a bending tool or two rulers. They are glued with cyanoacrylate or a small amount of epoxy. The cockpit, the seat and the belts of the Hellcat are rewarding places where a photo-etched set brings out fine detail. Degrease the parts before painting; metal holds paint better once a primer has been applied.
This is a photo-etched detail accessory, not an aircraft model. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
