This resin set from Aires adds a detailed radar antenna to the nose section of a model of the F/A-18 Hornet carrier aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of an aircraft but a refining accessory intended especially for a model with the nose cover open. The set makes it possible to show the internal layout of the radar with a faithfully drawn antenna and its mounting.
The F/A-18 Hornet is an American multirole carrier aircraft able to fill fighter as well as attack roles. In the nose it carries a powerful radar whose antenna is uncovered on a displayed machine during maintenance once the cover is swung open. It is exactly this view that is a favorite subject on display models.
Wash the resin parts free of mold release agent, cut the casting blocks off carefully and sand the surfaces with breathing protection. Glue the antenna in with cyanoacrylate and, before fitting it, shade the metal and protective surfaces for a faithful look. An open nose cover is also well complemented by cockpit detail.
This is an accessory to a plastic model, not a kit on its own. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
