Injection-molded plastic kit of the light Hughes 500D attack helicopter in the version with TOW anti-tank missiles in 1:48 scale from Academy. The box contains plastic parts, a clear sprue for the cockpit glazing and a decal sheet. The small, compact machine makes a rewarding and quick build for the display case.
The Hughes 500 is a family of light helicopters with a characteristic egg-shaped fuselage, derived from the military OH-6. The 500D version received a more powerful engine and a five-blade main rotor. In the anti-tank configuration it carried a guidance system and launch tubes for TOW guided missiles, which turned a small, civilian-looking machine into an effective tank hunter.
Assemble the rotor head with the five-blade main rotor and the tail rotor, and pay attention to the side-mounted TOW launch tubes and the sight. Paint the small cockpit and the interior before you close up the fuselage; glue the clear glazing in place at the end and mask the frames. Glue the skid landing gear and the small parts with thin cement for plastic applied drop by drop. A primer and an airbrushed army green are the way to go; a light wash will bring the engraved lines to life and a dry brush the edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
