A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the glazing of a model of the two-seat Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet and its derived EA-18G Growler version in 1:48 scale from Art Scale. It is not a model or decals but an accessory for a build. The double-sided version means that the set allows for masking the outer and the inner side of the clear parts, so the framing can be sprayed in the interior color from inside and in the final finish from outside. That pays off on the large hinged canopy of the two-seat cockpit, because an open canopy is visible from both sides on a finished model. The masks are cut to the outline of the Meng kit and will not fit a kit from another manufacturer.
The Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet is a two-seat carrier multi-role combat aircraft powered by a pair of General Electric F414 engines. Compared with the older Hornet it has a larger airframe, rectangular air intakes and greater load-carrying capacity and range. The EA-18G Growler is a machine derived from the F/A-18F and intended for electronic warfare, carrying jamming equipment on pylons and the corresponding fit on the wingtips. Outwardly the two versions differ above all in the arrangement of the wingtips and in the equipment carried; the airframe and the cockpit glazing are identical, which is why one set of masks covers both types.
Degrease the clear parts and let them dry. Lift the masks off the sheet with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, seat them from one edge and push the air out. With the large one-piece canopy, work slowly so that the mask does not wrinkle. Press the edges down with a wooden toothpick. Spray the framing in the interior color from inside first, then the base coat and the final finish from outside. With the gray schemes of modern carrier aircraft it pays to pre-spray the framing in the same shade as the airframe so that the transition does not show. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, at an acute angle.
It is a supplementary set of masks, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
