A masking set 1:48 Fairey Fulmar helps to deal with the long glazing of this British carrier fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a kit but an aid for painting a model in 1:48 scale. The shapes follow the division of the long cockpit, so the frames come about directly in the finish. The name states that the set deals with the glazing from outside and from inside. The package contains no kit and no paints.
The Fairey Fulmar was a two-seat carrier fighter of the Fleet Air Arm with a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. Against single-seat rivals it was slower, but it had great range and an observer in the back, which was valued when protecting convoys. It was deployed mainly in the Mediterranean and over the Atlantic in the first half of the war. It was named after a seabird and is remembered as the type that bore the main weight of carrier fighter aviation in the first years of the war. The long cockpit with two working positions gives a model character, but masking it takes a lot of time.
Before you start, take the grease and dust off the glazing. Lay every shape on separately and press its edge down so that no paint creeps under it. It has proved best to cover the inner side first and spray the cockpit shade, and only then continue from outside with the masking and the covering finish. It pays to work at room temperature; cold glass lengthens the drying. With two-seat cockpits it is sensible to finish the interior before the fuselage is closed for good.
