A set of masking pieces for the Italian Fiat BR-20 bomber in 1:48 scale. It covers the glazing from outside and from within and is die-cut to the kit from Special Hobby.
Responsibility details are not available.
The bomber known as the Cicogna, meaning stork, was designed by Celestino Rosatelli and first flew in February 1936. In its day it was among the first all-metal cantilever medium bombers in Europe, and Italy was duly proud of it. It appeared in combat in Spain, Japan took a larger number of them for operations over China, and in the autumn of 1940 it flew from Belgian bases against England. It was there that it turned out to be slow and weakly defended against modern fighters.
The real subject offers the modeler an unusual amount of clear area. The glazed navigator's nose, the pilot's cockpit with a host of small windows, the dorsal turret and the side gun positions all have to be masked before the camouflage is laid on. Taping that many frames by hand would take a whole evening and the result still would not be equally accurate everywhere.
The die-cut pieces seat themselves in the frames and do not let the edge wander. The set supplies two sets of shapes, one for the view from outside and one for the inner face of the same glass, so the frame can be sprayed from both sides and the cockpit does not look flat. They are applied to clean, degreased clear parts, the paint is laid on in several thin coats, and the film is removed before the paint has fully become tacky.
The kit of the bomber is not part of the delivery. The package holds only masking material for the clear parts.
