While most decal sets handle a single machine, this sheet is a storehouse. It contains the registrations and serial numbers used in the French Air Force in the period from 1995 to 2010, and that in a black form. A modeler puts the markings together from them according to a real subject of his own, or completes what is missing from a kit or is unusably printed there.
The figures and letters are printed in several sizes so as to cover the fin, the fuselage and the wings. The assembly goes character by character: each one is separated on its own and settled into a row along a line marked out beforehand. Mark it in advance with a thin pencil or with lightly stuck masking tape, because the eye reliably detects a difference of half a millimeter in the spacing.
The black form belongs on light bases – on gray, silver and sand finishes. On a dark camouflage it would be lost; for those there is a white counterpart from the same maker with the same range of characters.
Leave the characters on the water only briefly; small pieces release from the backing quickly and are easily washed away. Carry them with flat-jawed tweezers or a moistened toothpick. Check the spacing while the decals are still movable; once dry, a row can no longer be straightened. It is sensible to use the set only after the main motifs have been applied, because they determine how much room is left for the figures. When you are done, compare the result with a photograph of the real subject; a small deviation in the width of the gaps tends to be the only thing that betrays hand-assembled markings from a distance.
