The real subject

The Fw 190 is one of the best-known German fighters of the Second World War. The A version was the basic fighter, the letter F marked machines adapted for attacks on ground targets, and the D version had a lengthened fuselage and a different nose. The cockpit, however, stayed the same in its main features, and that goes for the pilot seat that this set is aimed at as well.

What the set contains

The box brings a pilot seat in 1:48 scale for the Fw 190 versions named. It is the part that is seen most of all under a canopy slid back, so it is worth having the shapes and the edges drawn out on it in a way that is hard to press into a kit part.

Building and painting tips

• Cut the original seat off the kit and level the cockpit floor so that the new one seats without rocking.
• Before gluing, simply set the seat in place and close the canopy to check that the height and the angle are right.
• The part is not polystyrene; super glue or epoxy will join it.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the marks of manufacture off gently.
• Wash and degrease before painting, then spray a primer and wear the edges, as a seat is most scuffed around the backrest.

Who it is for

The set suits builders who leave the canopy open or who photograph the cockpit. On a model with the canopy closed its benefit is lost. Check the exact seating and any adjustments against the manufacturer's instructions and against your own kit.
