A set of precisely die-cut self-adhesive painting masks from the Czech maker Eduard for a model of the German four-engined Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a model: it is an accessory that makes painting the extensive glazing and other surfaces cleanly much easier. The masks are stuck straight onto the parts, so the long subdivided framing of the pilot's cockpit and the side windows gets crisp, straight edges without laborious cutting of adhesive tape. Sets of this kind usually contain circular masks for the wheel discs as well.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor arose originally as a long-range airliner, and during the Second World War it served Germany above all for maritime reconnaissance and for attacks on Allied convoys far out over the Atlantic. Thanks to its great range it became a feared hunter of merchant ships. Its long fuselage with extensive glazing is exactly the area where masks save the most work.
Lift the mask carefully off the backing with tweezers or the tip of a knife and lay it on a dry, degreased surface. Press the edges down carefully, so that paint cannot run underneath. Apply the paint in thin coats, ideally with an airbrush, and pull the mask off before the coat hardens completely. On strongly curved shapes it helps to seal the edge with masking fluid.
This is a set of painting masks, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
