The third design from the numbered range of gates by the manufacturer Vertigo Miniatures, for building dioramas, vignettes and display-case scenes in 1:48 scale. Every number in the range represents a different pattern, so you can put a scene together from several different items and it will not read as monotonous. It is not a model of a vehicle but an architectural accessory that creates a setting around a model.
A diorama stands or falls by its composition. In it a gate works as a natural divide between two spaces, between the street and the yard, between the compound and its surroundings. From it the viewer can tell at once how big the figures and vehicles in the scene are, because everyone knows the size of a gateway from everyday life. If you put the gate at the edge of the base and the model inside, you gain a depth that a flat area alone can never give.
You will get the best results by not painting the gate in one flat color. Lay down a dark base, lighten the edges with a dry brush and finally even the tone out with a light spray or a filter, so that the item fits in with the rest of the scene. A few small things help believability: a broken-off piece of plaster, grass growing through at the foot, the print of a wheel in the earth before the entrance. Always try dry where the viewer will enter the scene, and only then glue it down for good.
This is an accessory for building a diorama, not a kit in its own right. The paints, glue, base and terrain materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
