A miniature of the second tank crewman from the ammunition scene in 1:48 forms the counterpart to the first pose, and only together do the two tell the whole story.
Responsibility details are not available.
While the first pose of the subject works in the lower position, No. 2 is modeled as its counterpart. Only the two figures together make sense of the scene, because the viewer infers the direction in which the handed object travels and the distance between the hands. On its own it serves wherever a man standing by a vehicle without any further activity suits, for instance at an open hatch.
A tank model on its own carries no scale that the eye can read. As soon as a human silhouette joins it, the vehicle starts to look genuinely massive and the viewer immediately judges its height. On the tall machines of the second half of the war this difference is especially clear, because the top edge of the turret reaches far above the head of a grown man. A single figure therefore does more for the effect of a display case than another accessory on the deck.
Clean the miniature, fix it to a temporary handle and only then paint it, otherwise fingerprints in the fresh layer are unavoidable. Work from the bottom upward and leave the face until last, when your hand is already steady. Use gloss varnish only in spots on the eyes and on the metal parts; the whole figure should stay matte.
