The kit captures the two-seat school variant of the well-known Mirage III delta aircraft. It is an injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Modelsvit. The particular contents of the package, the number of sprues, the presence of photo-etched or resin parts and the number of color schemes are given in the instructions in the package; the manufacturer gives the listing of the contents on the box of the kit.
The Mirage III is a single-engine combat aircraft with a delta wing and without horizontal tail surfaces, powered by a jet engine with afterburning. The IIIB version came about as a two-seat training variant for converting pilots. So that a second seat and a second set of instruments would fit into the fuselage, the fuselage was lengthened and the nose section modified; on this version it does not house a radar. At the same time it kept the flying qualities and the basic structure of the single-seat version, so it served for full conversion training onto the type. Two-seat Mirage IIIs flew with the French Air Force as well as with other users of the type, and some stayed in service long after the single-seat combat machines had been retired.
Delta aircraft have long straight joints between the wing and the fuselage that have to be watched. Test-fit the parts dry, glue with thin plastic cement in sections and rather let the joints cure properly before you start sanding. The lengthened two-seat cabin is the most visible part of the build, so it pays to spend time on it and not to close it up needlessly early. Before painting, spray the whole model with primer, which will reveal any hairline scratches left by sanding. Apply the metal areas around the exhaust nozzle only at the end. Use a gloss varnish under the decals and even the finished model out with a matte or semi-gloss varnish according to the scheme you have chosen.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
