A set of masks in 1:48 scale for the landing gear bays of the Gloster Meteor F.8 jet aircraft, cut for Airfix kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Gloster Meteor was the first British jet fighter aircraft and the only allied machine with jet propulsion to reach the fighting of the Second World War. The F.8 version is postwar and differs from the older machines in a lengthened fuselage, a modified vertical tail and an ejection seat. The aircraft has both engines housed in nacelles on the wing, which gives it its characteristic silhouette. The landing gear is of the nosewheel type and retracts inside the airframe, so the model has bays both in the wing and in the nose.
The masks match the shape of these bays on Airfix kits in 1:48 scale. They cover the finished interior before the outer finish comes up, and the boundary stays sharp around the whole perimeter. Cutting tape by hand into rounded shapes, where it is easy to miss and the mask either overhangs or does not seat, thus falls away.
First spray the inside of the bays and let it dry, and only then fit the masks. Press the edges down around the whole perimeter and check them against the light to see whether they are standing away anywhere. Apply the outer color in thin coats; mist gets into deep bays more easily than one would expect. Once it is dry to the touch, remove the masks with tweezers and do any small touching up of the shade with a brush while the edges are still accessible.
For builders of British postwar aircraft in 1:48 scale who want the landing gear bays clean. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
