Art Scale 1:48: a double-sided masking set for ICM's Gotha Go 242A / Go 242B glider kit: masks for the outer as well as the inner side of the glazing.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set from Art Scale in 1:48 scale for ICM's kit of the German Gotha Go 242 transport glider, in the A as well as the B version. It is not a kit and not a spare part: these are masks cut to shape for the clear parts. The double-sided form covers the outer as well as the inner side of the glazing, so the framing holds its shape when you look into the cockpit too. On a glider with a glazed nose and a large pilot's cabin that shows at first glance.
The Gotha Go 242 was a German transport and assault glider of the Second World War. In its design it is a cargo fuselage with a glazed nose and a pair of booms carrying the tail surfaces; the rear part of the fuselage hinged open, so cargo and troops were loaded straight in from the back. A tug aircraft, usually a twin-engine bomber or a transport machine, got it into the air. The A and B versions differed in their landing gear: the A took off on a jettisonable dolly and set down on skids, whereas the B received fixed wheeled landing gear, which allowed repeated use from ordinary airfields. The powered variant Go 244, with a pair of engines on the booms, later grew out of the Go 242. The extensive glazing of the cabin and the nose makes masking one of the most laborious steps of the build.
Degrease the clear parts and let them dry completely; keep your fingers off the visible face. Lift the mask off the sheet with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and press it from the center toward the edges so that no bubble is left underneath. Stick the inner masks on before you seat the parts in the fuselage, because afterwards you cannot reach them. Run a toothpick along the edge and spray thinly in several coats; a heavy coat likes to tear away beyond the mask when it is peeled off. It works well to lay down the inner shade of the frames first and only then the outer covering color. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried.
