The Grumman EA-6B Prowler was an American carrier-borne electronic warfare aircraft. It was based on the A-6 Intruder carrier attack aircraft, but was given a lengthened forward fuselage with four crew positions: a pilot and three operators who worked the jamming equipment. A conspicuous feature was the pod with antennas on top of the vertical tail and the jamming pods slung under the wing, each with a small turbine driving its own generator. The Prowler did not fly to shoot but to blind: its task was to disrupt enemy radars and communications so that the attack aircraft could get through.
These are photo-etched parts in 1:48 scale for a model of the EA-6B Prowler. Photo-etch makes sense where sheet metal is meant to be thin and an edge sharp, that is on small covers, grilles and cockpit fittings.
Go through the instructions before you start gluing the fuselage: some of the parts are fitted into spaces that will not open again. Separate the parts from the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface and sand the remains of the tabs. Fold along the marked grooves and always in one go; repeated bending tires the metal and the part cracks. Glue with super glue applied in the smallest of doses, as cement for polystyrene does not hold on metal. Wash and degrease the parts before painting.
The set is for modelers of carrier aircraft who have already worked with photo-etch and want to take a model beyond the level of the basic kit. Paints, glue and tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
