Eduard 1:48 FM-1 Wildcat gun barrels PRINT is a set of 3D printed resin barrels for a model of the FM-1 carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It is a detail add-on, not an aircraft model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The ends of the barrels protruding from the leading edge of the wing are among the most delicate details on a model of a fighter. A plastic part tends to be thick and once the parting seam is removed it loses its circular cross section. Printed resin from the Czech manufacturer Eduard solves that problem, because a barrel can be printed slender, symmetrical and with the muzzle suggested. The set is fitted into a plastic model of the FM-1 Wildcat in 1:48 scale under construction.
The FM-1 is the licensed version of the Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat fighter from the Eastern Aircraft division of the General Motors group. The most striking difference against the F4F-4 was precisely the armament. While the F4F-4 carried six machine guns of 12.7 mm caliber in the wing, on the FM-1 their number dropped to four, in exchange for a greater supply of ammunition per gun. The pilots did not complain about the smaller number of weapons, because in combat with lightly built Japanese machines a longer burst proved more useful than a heavy salvo. The machines served mainly from escort carriers and in the Royal Navy as the Martlet Mk.V.
Wash the parts with lukewarm water and detergent. Separate them from the support structure with a careful cut; the barrels are thin and will take only slight pressure. Try the seating dry in the leading edge of the wing first, widen the hole if necessary with a micro drill and fit the barrel with a drop of super glue. They can be painted in a dark metal shade with slight brightening at the muzzle. It is best to fit the barrels at the very end of the build, so that they are not damaged while the model is handled.
