A scenic accessory for dioramas in 1:48 scale. The name is in the plural, so this is a set of more than one instrument. The guitar is an object that gives a diorama a human dimension at once: propped against a wall, laid on a bunk or in the hand of a seated figure, it turns a scene from a technical display into a moment of life. The accessory is not a kit of an aircraft or a vehicle — these are stand-alone objects of a scene, set into a finished diorama.
They work best in interiors and in off-duty scenes: a barrack room, the corner of a hangar with a crew waiting to go, the doorstep of a country house, the bed of a vehicle during a move. It is exactly the contrast between the vehicles and an everyday object that a viewer notices first. When you prop an instrument against something, make sure it really touches both points of support — an unglued guitar hanging in the air shows immediately in a photograph of a diorama.
Cut the parts off the casting block with a fine-toothed saw, sand the cuts back and wash them in lukewarm soapy water before painting. Ordinary plastic cement does not hold on resin parts — use cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue. Lay down a thin primer, paint the body in a warm brown tone and let it come out with a thin gloss varnish that imitates varnished wood. Darken the neck and the fretboard and suggest the bridge and the tailpiece with a dark line and a fine brush. The strings are only suggested in this scale, but even a plain light line along the neck makes a big difference.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
