About product

Quickboost 1:48 - air intake for the Harrier T2/T4/T8

This is a resin replacement part in 1:48 scale from Quickboost. It replaces the engine air intake on a plastic kit of the two-seat Harrier in the T2, T4 and T8 versions. The set is not a model of the aircraft and cannot be built on its own - it allows for a base kit into which the part is glued in place of the original plastic one.

The real subject

The Harrier T2, T4 and T8 are the two-seat training variants of the British first-generation V/STOL aircraft. Against the single-seat machines they have a lengthened nose with a second cockpit and a reworked rear end with a taller vertical tail. The intake to the vectored-thrust engine remains a prominent mark of the whole family and, on models, is among the places where the parting line of the plastic parts shows most - which is why it is the intake that gets replaced with a one-piece casting.

Building and painting tips

Wash the resin parts first in lukewarm water with detergent, so that any residue of mold release agent disappears - otherwise paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, never snap them off, and level the face with abrasive paper; when sanding resin, work wet and with your airways protected. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), as ordinary plastic cement does not hold on resin. Before clear-coating, a filler primer helps to even the surface of the resin out with the surrounding plastic. The inside of the intake is best painted and polished before the airframe is closed up.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who build the two-seat Harrier in 1:48 scale and want to rid the intake of its parting line
  • Builders with experience of resin and cyanoacrylate glue
  • Those dealing with detail on the airframe without touching the interior
  • Collectors of British V/STOL aircraft

The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a base kit. Glue, paints and a kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a resin replacement part for a plastic kit of the two-seat Harrier in 1:48 scale. The base kit has to be had separately.

With cyanoacrylate-based super glue. Ordinary plastic cement does not dissolve resin, so the joint would not hold.

Yes. Wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent because of the mold release agent residue and then use a primer - the paint then holds on resin considerably better.

The target kit is stated on the box of the set. Before the build we recommend comparing the dimensions with your model.
