This set from MH models is neither a kit nor a part of the aircraft but an aid for finishing a model. It contains pre-cut masks with which you spray the national crosses onto the fuselage, wings and tail surfaces of a He 111H-16 model in 1:48 scale.
The ICM kit serves as the base; it is bought separately.
The He 111H-16 belonged to the late production series of the twin-engine bomber with its characteristic glazed nose and inverted V12 Jumo engines. The H-16 version was distinguished by modified defensive armament and was built in large numbers, so it is one of the most frequently built forms of the type.
A cross in 1:48 scale is a really large area on the wing of a He 111. A decal of that size settles less well over riveted seams, readily breaks at the leading edge and tends to show as a glossy frame when the finish is matted. A mask solves this problem from the ground up: the paint goes directly onto the model and the surface stays uniform.
The crosses consist of several separate elements, so plan their position against the panel lines before applying them. Press the mask down with a soft tool, close the edge with the base color and only then spray. On multicolor crosses you spray in turn from the lighter color to the darker one and let the paint set between layers, as otherwise the mask will stick into a soft surface at the next step.
The masks are cut for a particular kit in 1:48 scale; please check that it matches the model you are building. Paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
