This is an accessory for figures in 1:48 scale, not a kit of a model. It contains a casting of the German M38 pattern paratrooper helmet in the version set apart by the word detail; that is how it differs from the basic variant of the same helmet, which the manufacturer makes as a separate item. The casting suits the head of a figure and a loose item of equipment set down on the base of a diorama.
The 1938 pattern helmet comes from the shape of the ordinary infantry steel helmet but has a cut-back edge: it lacks the projecting brim above the forehead and the extended neck section. The lower silhouette was practical, because the edge did not catch the airflow and did not get in the way in a confined space. It also differs from the infantry helmet in its liner and in a multi-point fastening that holds the helmet firmly on the head. Thanks to its different outline the M38 is recognizable even on a small figure.
Separate the casting from the casting block with a fine saw and level the cut surface with a file. Try the fit on the figure's head or on a base dry, and only then glue it: with cyanoacrylate glue on resin, because cement for plastic does not hold on it. Before painting, wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent, otherwise remains of mold release agent will stop the paint from adhering evenly. After a thin coat of primer, paint the surface of the helmet and then pick out the edge and the straps with a dark wash; a fine drybrush on the edge gives the casting back the depth that paint in 1:48 easily fills in.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a figure. Paints, glue and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
