Covered intakes on a parked machine: the Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer – intake covers 1:48 close off both intakes of a model of the British carrier-based strike aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
Covered intakes belong to the picture of a parked jet as much as chocks under the wheels. The accessory also solves a practical building problem, because the intake ducts in kits tend to be short and the view into empty space spoils an otherwise successful model. The set is prepared for the British carrier-based strike machine in 1:48 scale.
The Buccaneer was created at Blackburn as an answer to a Royal Navy requirement for an aircraft able to reach its target at low altitude and high speed. After the manufacturers merged it was sold under the Hawker Siddeley name. The fuselage was shaped according to the area rule, which gave it its characteristic bulging silhouette, and the designers used boundary layer control with compressed air over the wing so that the machine could land on a carrier deck. The S.2 version brought turbofan engines and markedly better performance. Besides the navy, the type served with the Royal Air Force into the 1990s.
The vivid shade of the covers contrasts with the dark naval camouflage, which is striking, but keep an eye on the coverage, because bright colors need a light base. The edges around the attachment points tend to be scuffed and dirtied by the hands of the ground crew. If you are building an airfield scene, add the plugs for the other openings as well, so that the model looks consistent.
The package holds the accessory only; you buy the kit and the paints separately.
