An extensive injection-molded plastic kit of the American amphibious rescue aircraft Grumman HU-16A Albatross in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter. It is a richly broken-up model with finely engraved panel lines, a detailed cockpit and cargo compartment, well worked out landing gear and multi-part radial engines. Besides the plastic sprues the box also holds photo-etched parts and metal sections of the landing gear legs; the exact contents and the number of marking options are not stated here. Given the dimensions and the number of parts it is a more demanding build suited to more experienced modelers.
The Albatross was a large twin-engine amphibious aircraft able to land on water as well as on land. It came about after the Second World War and became famous above all in the role of search and rescue machines - it lifted out downed crews and rescued castaways. The HU-16A version was powered by a pair of piston radial engines and served for a long time with the US Air Force and with other operators around the world.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with liquid modeling cement for plastic; fix the metal and photo-etched sections with cyanoacrylate glue. Paint and accentuate the cabin interior before closing the fuselage, and mask the glazed windows and the canopy while spraying. Apply a primer and the paints with an airbrush, apply the decals over a gloss clear coat and bring out the panel lines with a wash. On a rescue machine, discreet operational wear and traces of sea water suit it well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
