The set from the Quickboost brand replaces the gun barrels on a model of the Ilyushin Il-2 attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. Thin long parts are among the worst things to injection-mold in plastic: they tend to be thicker than the scale calls for and are often slightly bent. A resin casting is slimmer and straight. It is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory for a kit bought separately. The number of barrels in the package is stated on the box; we recommend a dry fit before gluing.
The Ilyushin Il-2 was a Soviet single-engine attack aircraft of the Second World War. Its fixed armament was housed in the wing and changed during production: various combinations of cannons and machine guns were used, so the appearance and the projection of the barrels ahead of the leading edge differ between individual batches. The load-bearing part of the forward fuselage was an armored tub protecting the engine and the crew, which made the aircraft a very tough machine for work at low altitude.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent. Cut the casting block off with a saw as close to the part as possible: thin barrels are fragile and break under a squeeze from cutters. They are glued with cyanoacrylate applied with a toothpick; glue the barrels on at the very end of the build, so that they do not break off while the model is handled. Before gluing, check whether the openings in the wing match the diameter of the shank, and widen them carefully with a drill if need be. They are painted in a dark steel shade, and the mouths can be brought out with a fine dark wash.
The add-on set is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
