About product

Israeli M76 (OR-201) helmet in 1:48 scale

This is a small accessory for figures, not a model of a vehicle or a finished figure. It offers the helmet of the Israeli army in 1:48 scale, which you set on an altered figure's head, use when rebuilding a vehicle crew or as equipment set down on a fender or on the ground in a diorama. The manufacturer releases the same subject in other scales as well, so you can pick the one that matches your model.

The real subject

The OR-201, also designated M76, is an Israeli composite helmet introduced in the middle of the 1970s and used by ground units for long decades. It is recognized by a rounded shell with a pronounced edge, and in period footage it very often appears with netting and rubber bands pulled over the shell. It is exactly that shape which sets a figure of a modern Israeli soldier apart from figures of other armies of the same time, so the set makes sense mainly with models of vehicles in service from the 1970s onward.

Usage and painting tips

Separate the part carefully from the casting block with a fine saw or a cutter, level the surface with a file and degrease it before gluing. Wash the casting in lukewarm water with detergent to clear it of remains of mold release agent from the mold; without that the paint holds badly. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, which will join a small casting to a plastic figure reliably. Sanding is better done wet and with respiratory protection. Then comes a thin coat of primer, the base shade and finally picking out the edges with a drybrush. The edge of the shell and the straps come out nicely after a fine dark wash.

Who the accessory is for

  • Modelers who alter figures for models of modern Israeli vehicles
  • Builders of dioramas where the helmet lies set down on a vehicle or on the ground
  • Conversions of figures whose molded headgear does not match the subject
  • More experienced modelers used to working with small castings

The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a figure. Paints, glue and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is an accessory for figures. The set contains headgear, not a whole figure or a model of a vehicle, so you use it as part of altering a figure you have already built.

It matches Israeli equipment from the middle of the 1970s onward, so it suits figures and vehicles from this and later periods.

Cyanoacrylate glue is best. Ordinary cement for plastic will not join a small casting reliably, because it does not dissolve its surface.

Yes, wash it in lukewarm water with detergent, separate it from the casting block and apply a thin coat of primer. The paint then holds considerably better.
