The second part of a decal series devoted to Bell P-39 Airacobra fighters in Italian colors, this time in 1:48 scale. Exotic Decals has long concentrated on aircraft in less usual services, mainly in central and southeastern Europe, and the theme of Italian Airacobras fits their range exactly. The first part of the series exists separately; the two complement each other and each one offers different machines.
What you will find in the package and what you will not
This is a decal sheet, not a kit. The model of the aircraft you get separately, and the set supplies the markings for it.
After September 1943 part of Italy's air units went over to the side of the Allies, forming the Italian Co-Belligerent Air Force, and began receiving Allied equipment. The Bell P-39 Airacobra was one of the types that reached Italy in larger numbers. An aircraft with its engine behind the pilot's cockpit, a cannon on the axis of the propeller and a nose gear was not suited to combat at altitude, but it took work low over the ground well. Italian crews used it to attack ground targets over the Balkans. The machines carried new national insignia and often striking individual markings, which modelers find attractive.
The surface has to be glossy and smooth. Cut the decal out as close to the artwork as you can, soak it and leave it to stand aside for a while so that the adhesive activates. Guide it into place with a brush, blot the surplus water off and add a decal softener, which will pull the decal down into the engraved lines. Do not touch it until it has dried, or it will wrinkle. Once it is dry, varnish the model and only then do the washes and the weathering, so that the edges disappear completely.
The package contains decals; the aircraft kit is not part of it.
