A set of resin barrels for the Japanese Nakajima J1N1 Gekko night fighter in 1:48 scale from Quickboost. It is not an airplane model, but a precisely cast detail part that replaces the cannon barrels from the base kit with a crisper rendering with faithful muzzles.
The J1N1 Gekko (Allied reporting name Irving) was a Japanese twin-engine aircraft of the Second World War that proved itself above all in the night fighter role. In this version it carried obliquely upward-firing 20 mm cannon (a system similar to the German Schraege Musik) for attacking bombers from below. The barrels are conspicuous, but in injection-molded plastic they tend to be thick or with closed muzzles. The resin replacements have a more faithful diameter and finely suggested muzzles.
These are small, fragile parts: wash them free of mold release residue, separate them carefully from the casting block and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue; protect your airways when sanding. Paint the barrels in a dark metal shade such as burnt steel and, because of their exposed position, fit them at the end of the build.
The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
