A bright warning orange in a dropper bottle of seventeen milliliters. A saturated acrylic intended for safety features, rescue machinery and signal markings. The cap seats tightly and protects the contents from drying out.
Responsibility details are not available.
Signal orange came about so that the human eye would catch it before anything else around. It is worn by rescue boats, road workers' vests, floating buoys, aircraft used for training and coast guard helicopters. On a model it plays the same role: it draws the gaze to the place you want to give meaning to, and the rest of the composition arranges itself around it.
Most often it appears on rescue equipment, on the warning stripes of machinery, on cones and barriers in construction scenes, on the tips of rotor blades and on the height markings of training aircraft. In a diorama very little of it is enough - one or two small features do more than a whole orange surface, which would break the scene up.
Orange and red are among the shades that lose their spark over a dark base. The proven procedure goes through a light base: a white or very light gray layer, and only then the paint itself. The result is brighter and fewer layers are needed, which is essential where fine relief is to stay legible. Straight onto a black base, by contrast, you will not reach saturation even after the fourth stroke.
The sealing cap limits the access of air into the bottle. For a paint that is reached for only occasionally this matters - it is precisely with pronounced secondary shades that the greatest risk of thickening between projects lies. Store the bottle upright and shake it briefly before use.
