This is a set of self-adhesive masks from the Art Scale brand for a plastic model of the Japanese Kyushu J7W1 Shinden fighter in 1:48 scale. The masks are supplied pre-cut to shape, so there is no laborious cutting out of masking tape with a knife, and they are stuck straight onto the clear part, that is onto the glazing of the model. This set is the single-sided form, that is the variant for masking from the outer face; the double-sided set of the same type is a separate item. The masks are cut for the Hasegawa kit; on a model from another maker they need not fit.
The Kyushu J7W1 Shinden was a Japanese fighter with an unconventional canard layout: the main lifting surface at the rear, a small horizontal surface at the front and the propeller behind the cockpit, that is a pusher arrangement. The machine stayed at the prototype stage and flew only a few times in 1945. For a modeler it is attractive precisely for its shape, because it looks utterly unlike the other aircraft of the time. The cockpit sits far forward and its frames are markedly visible on a finished model.
Wash and degrease the glazing; fingerprints under a mask leave marks. Carry the mask over with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, lay it down dry and press the edges with a toothpick so that no paint runs under them. Spray in thin coats at right angles to the surface; a heavy coat creates a little step at the edge. It pays to spray the shade of the frames first and only then the top color. Take the mask off at a shallow angle as soon as the paint is dry to the touch, not after several days.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
