This is not a ship kit but an accessory set. In the package there is a veneer deck with pre-printed plank laying and a self-adhesive backing, and a masking sheet with it. The veneer goes straight onto the plastic deck of the kit it is cut for. Check before buying, therefore, that you have the Very Fire VF350910 model.
The hardest spot on the whole deck is the bow. The veneer has to adapt there to curvature in two directions, lengthwise and across, and that is exactly where waves and lifted edges arise. Work from the stern forward, so that the remaining free part of the veneer helps hold the shape. At the bow, take the covering film off in small pieces, lay only a few millimeters at a time and press them down at once. Where the veneer refuses to follow the curve, it helps to moisten it lightly with a finger and let it soften for a moment, but do not overdo it, as wet veneer warps. Press the edges at the line of the side down with a blunt toothpick and secure them if necessary with a drop of super glue.
Both veneer and adhesive work better in warmth. In a cold, damp workshop the adhesive holds worse and the wood is stiffer. Let the set and the model acclimatize for a few hours at room temperature, therefore, before you begin. Always lay the deck on dry before taking the film off, line it up along the longitudinal axis and go through all the cut-outs. Once the self-adhesive layer has been pressed down, corrections are limited, and repeated removal reduces its tack.
