This package holds photo-etched metal parts for refining the plastic kit of the Soviet IS-2 heavy tank, also designated JS-2. It is not a kit of the tank, nor a finished model - it is an aftermarket accessory from the Czech maker Hauler, cut for the Tamiya kit. As a basic set it covers the typical areas where plastic is too thick for the scale, while specialized accessories, the engine grilles alone or the additional armor for example, have separate packages of their own for this subject.
The IS-2 was a Soviet heavy tank committed at the close of the Second World War. It was characterized by a powerful large-caliber gun meant for breaking down fortifications and for fighting heavy targets, by a massive cast front to the hull and by a small quantity of ammunition carried, which followed from the size of the rounds. On the surface of the vehicle it is precisely the small equipment that matters - the tool holders, the eyes, the loops, the covers, the fuel tanks and their straps.
Working with photo-etch stands or falls by the glue. Apply super glue in a minimum - dip a pin or a thin piece of wire into a drop and transfer only the slightest amount to the joint. A surplus fills the engraving and goes white. It helps to work with two pairs of tweezers: with one you hold the part, with the other you position it. Before you start gluing, go through the whole of the instructions and settle the order - some photo-etched elements have to be fitted before the hull is closed up. On the surface of the tank a wash into the hollows and fine shades of dust on the horizontal surfaces will then stand out.
This is an accessory set, not a model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
