About product

Junkers Ju 88A - a bulkhead with radio equipment in 1:48 scale (CMK, resin)

The resin set from the maker CMK completes the internal fitting out of the fuselage of the twin-engine Junkers Ju 88A aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is a bulkhead with radio sets that closes off the space at the upper gun position for the flexible machine gun. The set is intended for finishing a plastic kit that has already been bought; on its own it does not form a model. The parts are shaped for the Dragon kit.

What the part deals with on the model

The cockpit of the Ju 88A is largely glazed and looking in from above you can see deeper into it than modelers expect. Injection-molded kits tend to have the rear wall of the pilot's compartment rendered as a bare plate, so once the fuselage is glued together there is nothing behind the seats. The resin bulkhead adds the cabinets of the radio equipment, their mountings and the division of the wall, that is exactly what is visible through the view over the gun position. The detail pays off where you are building a model with the glazing open or the cover slid back.

Preparing the plastic before fitting

Before you start gluing, remove the original plastic bulkhead or its suggestion from the inside of the fuselage. A knife and a fine saw are a better choice than a burr, because the wall of the fuselage is thin in these places. Then sand the inner surfaces of the fuselage and remove the flash from the ejector pins, otherwise the part will not seat straight and the fuselage will not close. A dry test is obligatory here: bring both halves of the fuselage together with the casting inserted, hold them with a rubber band and check that the seam on the spine goes right down. Only then glue with cyanoacrylate glue. It is sensible to paint before closing the fuselage up, as once glued you will not get into the space. Wash the castings free of the release agent first, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand wet or with respiratory protection.

Who the set is for

  • Builders who want to see something other than an empty fuselage in the glazed cockpit of the Ju 88A
  • Modelers building a model with the cover of the gun position open
  • More experienced builders, as the part is fitted inside the fuselage before it is closed up

The set is an accessory for a plastic kit. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Inside the fuselage, into the space at the upper gun position. It is fitted and painted before the two halves of the fuselage are glued together.

On the Ju 88A yes: the glazing of the cockpit is extensive and looking in from above you can see into the space behind the seats, especially with the cover open.

Yes. The original plastic bulkhead has to be removed and the inner surfaces of the fuselage sanded, so that the part seats and the fuselage will close.

After washing off the release agent, spray a base color, then the interior shade and the details. Finish the work before you close the fuselage up.
