1:48 Ki-51 Sonia National Insignias, Dead Design masks for spraying the national insignia onto a model of the Japanese Mitsubishi Ki-51 aircraft in 1:48 scale, a sharper and more durable alternative to decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
A self-adhesive Dead Design masking set intended for spraying the national insignia onto a model of the Japanese Mitsubishi Ki-51 aircraft (Allied designation Sonia) in 1:48 scale. Instead of applying decals, you spray the insignia with paint through precisely cut stencils: the result is perfectly matte, free of silvering, and with a surface identical to the rest of the camouflage.
The Mitsubishi Ki-51 was a two-seat light attack and reconnaissance aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force, deployed throughout the Second World War. The machines carried the round hinomaru national insignia on the wings and the fuselage, often with a white surround; those are exactly the elements the set handles by spraying.
A sprayed insignia sits well even on a busy surface, follows the riveting and the panel lines, does not silver and takes subsequent weathering (washes, paint chipping) far better than a decal. You lay the masks on the right spot, spray the matching shade, and once they are off you get a sharp insignia that looks as though it were painted on the real aircraft. On machines with worn and faded camouflage, typical of the Ki-51, that is the most convincing route.
This is a masking accessory: the airplane kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
