This item is a small aftermarket accessory from the Czech maker Hauler. It holds a cast resin barrel for the main weapon for the model of the Soviet KV-2 heavy tank in 1:48 scale, cut for the Tamiya kit. It is not a model or a kit. It is one of the quickest ways of markedly improving the look of a finished model.
A barrel from a kit tends to be made of two halves that have to be glued together, sanded and then have their round cross-section restored. It is on the barrel that such a seam is most visible, and painting brings it out even further. A cast part is round from the start, with no parting line, it has a correctly shaped muzzle and, on the KV-2, the thickened section at the trunnions as well. The short, massive barrel of the 152 mm howitzer is moreover the dominant feature of the whole model, so work put in here comes back most of all.
Wash the part in warm water with detergent so that the release agent from the mold disappears. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the surface on abrasive paper laid on a flat support, so that the barrel does not sit crooked. Glue it with super glue and, before it dries, check from the front and from above that the barrel points straight and is not twisted. The muzzle can be carefully drilled out or at least darkened, so that it does not look flat. Apply a primer before painting; paint does not hold on bare resin.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
