This interior set from Quinta Studio is printed on decal paper and is transferred onto a model by soaking in water. Thanks to it the cockpit of the piston-engine La-11 fighter gets a color instrument panel and shaded inner surfaces without painting the individual dials by hand. The set is cut for the HobbyBoss kit. The maker also offers the same interior in a version for a kit from another brand, so when choosing go by the designation of the target model, otherwise the segments may not match in shape.
The La-11 is a single-seat piston-engine fighter of Soviet design from the postwar period, derived from the previous type of the same line and intended for long-range escort tasks. The cockpit is simple compared with jet machines, with a clear instrument panel and side panels, so the color layer is easy to read here even in 1:48 scale. With piston fighters a model is also often built with the canopy slid back, where practically the whole inside is visible.
Paint the cockpit areas with the base color and go over them with a gloss coat, and only then reach for the set. The soak in lukewarm water should be brief, as the segment only has to come free enough to slide off the paper. Once it is in place, draw the water off with a paper towel and let the layer set. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as their chemicals attack the printed resin and ruin the element; just press the layer down while it is still damp from soaking. Deal with the instrument panel and the sides separately so that the edges do not overlap. A matte coat at the end and a day to dry.
