1:48 Lockheed F-104 Starfighter Collection Part 3 is a decal sheet from the British maker Xtradecal for models of the F-104 Starfighter fighter in 1:48 scale, the third part of a collection series.

This is a standalone decal sheet, not a kit. It follows on from the earlier parts of the collection devoted to the F-104 and brings markings for models of this type in 1:48 scale. Which particular machines and which operators the sheet covers is given in the instructions supplied with it — with collection series the individual parts usually complete one another, so the parts follow on and do not overlap.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a single-engine supersonic aircraft with unusually small trapezoidal wings with a very sharp leading edge and with a fuselage built around a powerful jet engine. It came about as a light day fighter, but in its export versions it was used above all as a multirole combat and reconnaissance machine and served in the air forces of a range of countries for most of the second half of the 20th century. It is precisely the wide palette of operators and the variety of finishes that go with it that make the Starfighter a rewarding subject for collection decal sheets.
The slender fuselage of the Starfighter is demanding for decals: long inscriptions and bands are laid onto a surface that curves beneath them in two directions at once. Trim the surplus carrier film as closely around the subject as you can; you will reduce the risk of a visible rim markedly. Lay the decal onto a glossy surface and put a drop of water with a trace of dish soap under the film, so that it can still be seated. With longer elements work from one end and push the water outwards with a cotton swab, and only then bring in the decal softener. Across the sharp leading edge of the wing it is safer to split the decal into two steps than to drag it over in one piece.
The package holds decals only. The model, paints and clear are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
