A sheet of waterslide decals for a model of the F-35B in British markings, in 1:48 scale. The package holds decals only; the model itself and paints have to be obtained separately. Kits-World is a British decal brand that focuses on aircraft of the British armed forces and on precise printing of small lettering.
The F-35B is the variant of the Lightning II adapted for short takeoff and vertical landing. Behind the cockpit it carries a lift fan driven from the engine, and the main nozzle swivels downward, so the machine can operate from short strips and from ships' decks without a catapult. In Great Britain the type is operated jointly by the Royal Air Force and the Fleet Air Arm and it also serves for operations from aircraft carriers. The finish is uniformly low-visibility in shades of gray and the markings tend to be subdued, so the look of a model is largely down to the decals and their contrast.
The key is a smooth and glossy undercoat, otherwise whitish frames appear around every piece of lettering on the gray surface. Trim the film close to the print, soak the decals briefly and transfer them to a dampened spot. Settle the small technical markings with decal softener and press them down with a cotton swab so that they sink into engraved lines and panel joints. Because this is a machine with a smooth surface and no protruding rivets, work carefully with the overcoat and choose rather a semi-gloss level, which matches the real look of the skin better than a deep matte.
The package holds decals only. The model, glue, paints and clear coats are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
