1:48 Lockheed T-33A Early Version (outside and inside masks) is a self-adhesive Montex masking set for the glazing frames of a jet trainer. It is not a kit, but an accessory for a model you already own.
Responsibility details are not available.
Shaped self-adhesive masks for the long canopy of the two-seat T-33A trainer in early production form. The name of the set gives masks for the outside and the inside, so the frames can be painted from both views. The templates are die-cut to the outline of the individual glazed parts, so measuring and cutting strips of tape directly on the model falls away.
The T-33A came about by stretching the fuselage of the single-seat F-80 Shooting Star fighter to take a second seat, and it became one of the most widespread jet trainers ever. It served with the US Air Force and with dozens of other users, and a whole generation of jet pilots was trained on it. Early production machines differ from later ones in details of equipment and in the execution of the cockpit, which carries over into the shape of the canopy frames.
The long canopy of the tandem cockpit has continuous longitudinal frames, on which every unevenness of tape shows. This is precisely where pre-cut masks pay off most: stick them on dry, press them down from the center toward the edges and only then cover the rest of the glazing with tape. Degrease the surface first. Apply the paint with an airbrush in several light coats, or a step will form at the edge of a mask. It is worth spraying the interior color first, then a thin coat of the base shade as a lock against creep, and the outer camouflage last.
The package holds masking templates only. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it.
