A set of full-color restraint straps for the crews of German bombers of the Second World War, scale 1:48.
Responsibility details are not available.
German bomber aircraft flew with a crew of three to five men crowded into a glazed nose, where each of them needed a different restraint from a fighter pilot. The bombardier lay on his stomach, the radio operator turned to his machine gun and the pilot often left his seat in flight, so simpler lap belts were used alongside full harnesses. The use of these machines ran from the campaigns over Poland and France through night raids on British cities to supply flights over the Eastern Front, where the crews struggled more with frost and de-icing than with the enemy.
The straps are printed in the shades of period webbing and of dark fittings and carry even small details of the kind that practically cannot be managed with a brush at this scale. The material is flexible and will take a bend over the edge of a seat or a loose end thrown onto the floor. The work can be managed even by someone who has so far only handled ordinary sheets, because the procedure is no different.
Varnish the seats and their frames in advance and let them dry until dry to the touch. Release the belt in lukewarm water, move it with a soft brush and straighten it only once in place. In multi-seat cabins work from the back forward, otherwise you will damage what is already finished while handling the tweezers. At the end, even out the gloss with a matte overcoat so that the fittings do not look as if they were made of glossy paper. The finished cabin then looks lived in and every seat in it looks a little different.
