A set for the cockpit of a model of the Macchi C.202 in 1:48 scale, in a rendition for the early machines. An accessory for a plastic kit of the Italian fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Macchi C.202, nicknamed Folgore, was an Italian fighter of the Second World War. It came about by building an inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 601, liquid-cooled and produced in Italy under license, into the airframe of the older C.200 type. The aircraft thereby got a slender, pointed nose and with it considerably better performance than its predecessor with a radial engine. The cockpit was narrow and cramped, which makes it all the more noticeable on a model how it is turned out.
The set concentrates on the cockpit area and is listed as a rendition for the early machines, on which the equipment differed from the later production runs. The exact make-up of the parts and the extent of the reworking that fitting will call for are in the manufacturer's instructions.
Try the parts dry first and only then take material off the fuselage; with a cramped cockpit a little is enough and the set stops fitting. Cut the surplus material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part, sand the rest and wash and degrease the surfaces before painting. Finish the cockpit before gluing the fuselage. Italian cockpits tended to be in a different shade from German ones, so it pays to check the color against the references for the particular machine. The broken-up detail is brought out by a dark wash and a dry brush along the edges.
For modelers who are building the Folgore in 1:48 scale and want a richer cockpit than the basic kit offers, especially when the model is displayed with the canopy open. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
